I bought 4 kg of this Biohome-Ultimate media 3 months ago. I transfer my 20 red claw crayfishes from a 90 gallon tall tank into a 240 gallon tank. At first, I was only doing regular water changes every week and not running my FX-5 filter. When I noticed the crayfishes not being as active and not eating as much, I decided to test the water. The Ammonia and Nitrite levels were off the charts. I decided to try the Biohome-Ultimate media after watching Pond Guru on Youtube and reading the reviews on here. I filled the 2 bottom trays with 2 kg of Biohome-Ultimate and the top tray with mechanical filter pads. The outer layer of all three trays was filled with the FX-5 sponge filter. Literally after I installed the FX-5 and did a 65% water change, the Ammonia was reading 3 ppm and the Nitrite was still reading over 5 ppm. After one week the Ammonia levels had dropped to 0 ppm while the Nitrite was down to 3-4 ppm. After week 2 ammonia and Nitrite were both reading 0 ppm. Nitrate level seems to be stable at around 40 ppm. The readings for ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate all stayed the same after 1 month of use and no water change. There is no such thing as rotten food for crayfishes so I always overfeed them, and for the water to stay at this level is beyond excellent. I plan to make a 4 x 275 gallon tote system to raise these crayfish for food and will make a 50 gallon drum bio-filter with this stuff. Highly recommended! Although the letter that comes with the shipment is nothing but a computer generated copy that I don’t care for, I do appreciate the fast shipping and excellent quality of the filter media. Will buy again in the future.

Installed 3 kg of biohome ultimate in my new canister on Jan 22. I did a fishless cycle using a heavy load of ammonia because I needed to move a large oscar to this tank. Tank cycled in three and half weeks even with heavy load. I attribute this to biohome ultimate and starter gel balls. Tank levels have been perfect since moving oscar to new home. This media has preformed way above my expectations. Don at Greatwave has been very helpful and even sent me samples of mechanical media to try. Will install it on my first canister maintenance. Quick review of shipping. Ordered on a Sunday, shipped on Tuesday, arrived at my house on Thursday!! That is awesome. I’m currently upgrading from a 55 to a 150 so I can’t comment on performance just yet but from what I have heard I’m sure there won’t be any issues. This stuff looks and feels amazing.
