Description
Biohome Ultimate is a best-selling sintered glass filter media. Ideal for aquariums and ponds, it works in canister filters, power filters, internal filters, and sumps. Its enormous surface area allows it to house large amounts of beneficial bacteria in a compact space. The media supports two types of aerobic nitrifying bacteria: Nitrosomonas, which converts ammonia (NH3) into less toxic nitrites (NO2), and Nitrobacter, which consumes nitrites (NO2) and excretes nitrates (NO3). Additionally, Biohome features a protected labyrinth of tunnels where anaerobic bacteria break down nitrates (NO3) into free nitrogen, ensuring a balanced and healthy aquatic environment. Proudly made in the UK, Biohome Ultimate is your go-to solution for superior biological filtration.

I shoulda tried this product sooner. I hesitated because of the price and ended up wasting so much time with other media trying to keep my water parameters in check. I recommend you getting more than the suggested amount, there’s really no such thing as over-filtered when it comes to biological filtration. Good luck, everyone

Biogravel, I used it as substrate for my eco bowl. With no filter, the water remains crystal clear. I wish I had known about Biohome sooner. It’s quite interesting how crucial media can be for an aquatic environment.

I have an FX6 filter and had a problem with nitrate reduction. After three months of struggling and changing water every day, I found out the issue wasn’t with Biohome but with the FX6 itself. While it’s a great filter, it doesn’t have enough room for media. In a bare-bottom glass tank, there’s not enough space for bacteria to grow. Last month, I added a HOB filter and more Ultimate Media, and I’ve seen a massive improvement. So, if you have a bare-bottom tank, whether you’re using an FX4 or FX6, you need additional space for more media. The built-in space just isn’t enough.
