Description

Biohome Ultra Media is a large media and has a  extremely porous structure.  It allows both nitrifying (aerobic) and denitrifying (anaerobic) bacteria to grow on and through it’s unique structure.  We recommend a low flow rate to provide maximum contact time.

Biohome Ultra Media is designed for use in trickle tower, shower filters and sumps. 

1 kg occupies between 79 and 82 cu in depending on your filter size. To see how much your filter requires return to the Home page and click on the link at the top, “How Much Do I Need“.

Complimentary Filter Starter Balls (1/4 Bag per Kilogram) are shipped with each order.  The media recovers quickly after the use of medications.

Biohome allows both nitrifying (aerobic) and denitrifying (anaerobic) bacteria to grow on and through it’s unique structure. This allows it to also control nitrates. Check the Rules of Thumb for Nitrate Reduction to estimate how much you’ll need to reduce the nitrates in your pond or tank.

Ultra is a biological filter media and good mechanical filtration must be provided to insure the water passing through it does not contain any debris that might clog it.

    I inherited a 125 gallon tank from a friend that passed. Knowing nothing about caring for a giant fish tank, I set up the cascade filter how I found it. Floss on every layer and media on every layer. In the beginning the water was cloudy so I knew that the filter system wasn’t set up properly. I lost 2 fish before I found this company and there AWESOME products. I have been using the media for almost a month now and the water is more clear than it has ever been! Thank you so much for the helpful videos that you have on you tube.

    I set up a 55 gallon tank 2 months ago using the Biohome Ultra media in a Cascade 1000 canister filter. The filter uses the standard setup of foam and floss in the bottom tray, and the media with the included bacteria balls in the other two. I originally included carbon in the first tray with the foam, but found it wasn’t necessary. After giving a few days to establish the bacteria on the media, I monitored the water conditions every 7 to 10 days just before water cycling and gravel cleaning. Even after the tank was fully stocked with a freshwater tropical community, the nitrite levels were always zero, and the nitrates were never measured above 10. Long story short, the media has made it easy to keep sensitive fish like my blue rams happy and healthy. The media was shipped quickly, and it included a friendly letter from Don. I couldn’t be happier with the media or the service. Thanks!

    I gave this product a few months to see its qualities,and I have to say this is a great product , i removed all my carbon and used only foam/filter floss and biohome in my 120 gallon freshwater tank with all live plants and a variety if tetras,barbs,gouramis and some plecos. My tank has always been clean no algae on glass but i did get some algae on my driftwood, that dark green fuzzy stuff, but now its almost all gone except for a few spots that the fish can still nibble on. I have done nothing different as far as my maintenance routine goes, and the other great thing about biohome is you dont have to replace it but just replenish once in a while i have had mine in for almost 6 mos. and haven’t had to replenish yet and everything is thriving and my Nitrate levels have dropped dramatically hence the algae problem gone! I know i will be using this product for a very long time i’ve started a new 35 gallon tank above my fireplace and so far everything is going great! One last note Don is a great guy to deal with and his company is very great to deal with! Thanks Again Don and your Staff/engineers
