Description

Ultimate Marine is a version of the highly popular Ultimate media especially formulated for marine tanks. This marine filter  media is ideal for:

  • Canisters

  • Sumps

1 kg occupies between 57 and 70 cu in depending on your filter size. To see how much your filter requires click on the link: “How Much Do I Need“.

Biohome Ultimate Marine is infused with trace elements including iron and manganese to support beneficial bacteria growth. Bacteria growth in Ultimate Marine is very fast to control ammonia and nitrite.

The trace elements are fused into the structure of this media and are there to enhance the bacterial processes. They will not alter water chemistry although users have commonly reported a marked improvement in coral health and coloration – this may be due to the water being extremely good quality in a Biohome filtered tank.

Complimentary Filter Starter Balls (1/4 bag per kg) are shipped with each order to speed filter maturity. The media recovers quickly after the use of medications.

Biohome allows both nitrifying (aerobic) and denitrifying (anaerobic) bacteria to grow on and through it’s unique structure. This allows it to also control nitrates. Check the Rules of  Thumb for Nitrate Reduction to estimate how much you’ll need to reduce the nitrates in your pond or tank.

Ultimate Marine Media is a biological filter media and good mechanical filtration must be provided to insure the water passing through it does not contain any debris that might clog it.

I discovered the BioHome media and decided to give it a try when I set up my first two BiOrbs as a fresh water shrimp bowl and mean betta bowl. I used the biogravel and foam upgrade that the Pond Guru Richard teaches on the u tubes. I got all my supplies here at GreatWave and had a perfect interaction and experience with Don. Then I saw the marine media and decided a bigger BiOrb would make a great saltwater tank, a big Salty Ball. I find these orbs used and fix them up, the one I was after got away so I got a 20 gallon long and set it up as a tidal reef using the UNS Delta 60 Canister filter that Don upgraded with biogravel and a 10 gallon swamp out sump and refugium tank. I bought a kilo of marine ultimate and put as much as would fit in the UNS60, I added the biogravel upgrade that the canister came with in my shrimp bowl. I also got a biobrick to put into the sump for the saltwater tank and there was about a pint mugs worth of marine media leftover after I filled the canister that I will also chuck into the sump. Its all cycling now , day 6, with the bioballs in the bottom of the canister, 1 medium foam and remaining space all marine ultimate, a prefilter foam canister is on the way and when I give the canister its first cleaning I will remove the foam and have all biomedia in it. I can say that I have had great water chemistry results in the fresh water application, I highly suspect that the marine ultimate will be no different and found my first check of alkalinity, magnesium, and calcium are right on. The no fish first cycle is going as nitrites are detected at levels right where they need to be for the levels of ammonia present. I am so darn excited about this marine tank and feel very satisfied with the BioHome media product and the results. I will post updates as the tank matures. Thanks Don!

      Ben,
Very interesting to hear about your projects. I hope you’ll send me some photos so we can put up a Customer Page for you. This experience should be very useful for other hobbyists. It will be interesting to hear what you think of the Delta 60 after you’ve used it a while. I hope your marine project goes well.
      Stay safe, and…

Great company to work with. Originally ordered the Biohome Ultimate Media not knowing that there was the Biohome Ultimate Marine Media. Call and Don was able to make the switch and received the correct media. Also Don answered all of my emails.

UPDATE: It’s been nearly 4 months since I set up my 29 gallon marine aquarium. The Ultimate Marine Biohome has been amazing! My ammonia, nitrites AND nitrates have tested “0” for the last month! Never thought the Biohome would work this fast! Wow!

I cycled my tank for 2 months (intentionally) at 90F to populate lots of bacteria. I finally got my seahorses and the parameters have remain at “0”. I’m beefing up with more Ultimate Marine Biohome, because I want to add more seahorses in the future!

The foam set I ordered has also done it’s job. However, I added polishing foam to top them off, because seahorses are very messy eaters.

Between the Ultimate Marine Biohome media and the foam set, I’ve been able to keep seahorses painlessly… and without a protein skimmer! How cool is that!!!

Thank you GreatWave for making my hobby so much more enjoyable!

      Erica,
Thanks for the Ultimate Marine order. It’s great to hear about your seahorses. I thought I saw a photo of one once, but I couldn’t find any emails from you, so if I did, it must not have been one of yours. If you get time, send me some photos.
I’m sure they’re spectacular and I’d love to put them on your Customer page. Thanks for taking the time to report, and…
      Happy Fish Keeping,
      Don
