The media supports two types of aerobic nitrifying bacteria: Nitrosomonas, which converts ammonia (NH3) into less toxic nitrites (NO2), and Nitrobacter, which consumes nitrites (NO2) and excretes nitrates (NO3). Additionally, Biohome features a protected labyrinth of tunnels where anaerobic bacteria break down nitrates (NO3) into free nitrogen, ensuring a balanced and healthy aquatic environment.
